204.01 Verification Requirement (FAM)

Require documentation, unless otherwise noted, to establish that an unwed minor parent meets the special living arrangement requirement criteria or an exception.

Acceptable documentation includes signed and dated statement(s):

• that the unwed minor’s parents and legal guardian are deceased;

• that the unwed minor‘s parents and legal guardian refuse or, due to rental/lease restrictions, are unable to let the unwed minor parent and/or child(ren) live with them;

• from an individual familiar with the unwed minor parent’s circumstances stating that the parents and legal guardian’s whereabouts are unknown;

• rent receipts which establish that the unwed minor parent lived apart from their own parents or legal guardian for at least one year before the birth of a dependent child or at least one year from the date of the TANF application; or

• which establish the fact that living with the parents and legal guardian would pose physical or emotional harm to the unwed minor parent and/or child(ren).
