Cash Assistance Programs

Cash Assistance is provided through Division of Family Assistance (DFA) in two general program areas, the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) and State Supplemental Programs (SSP) for the Needy Blind (ANB), Permanently and Totally Disabled (APTD) and Old Age Assistance (OAA).

State Supplemental Programs (SSP-Cash)

State Supplemental cash assistance supports elderly adults, individuals that are physically disabled, mentally disabled or legally blind. Eligibility and benefit amounts for the State Supplement Programs depend on the individual and spouse's income, resources and on living arrangement. Services are provided for eligible individuals through the following programs:

  • Aid to the Permanently and Totally Disabled (APTD)
  • Aid to the Needy Blind (ANB)
  • Old Age Assistance (OAA)

Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)

TANF provides assistance to needy families with dependent children with a network of employment support through the NH Employment Program. Services are provided for families with dependent children through the following TANF and related programs:

  • Family Assistance Program (FAP) or
  • New Hampshire Employment Program (NHEP)
  • Child Care Assistance
  • Emergency Assistance
  • Employment and Training Programs and Support Services
