In March, Maple Sugaring Season is in full swing at the Glencliff Home. Staff have been producing their own syrup on site since the early 1900's. When the operation first began, it was done with the bucket system and horse drawn wagons would collect the sap. Eventually, the horses were replaced with a tractor and in the early 1990's the buckets were replaced by a gravity fed tubing system.

Today, the sap is collected with a vac system. The sap is boiled in a wood fired open arch sugar house. All of the wood used in the boiling process is gathered from the grounds.

Each year staff produce on average about 100 gallons of syrup, and all of it is used at the facility for the residents. Come take a horse drawn ride to the sugar shack and see the process yourself during Glencliff's annual sugaring open house on March 23rd.
