FAMILY SERVICES SPECIALIST TRAINEE - I

Starting Salary Range:
TRAINEE – $27,514.50 - $32,097.00
I – $29,718.50 - $34,866.00

SCOPE OF WORK: Obtain and verify initial and ongoing eligibility data through interviews and collateral contacts and recommend for supervisory approval; process eligibility information; identify barriers and service needs; and make needed referrals for clients of the Division of Family Assistance. This position is assigned to a District Office, and reports to the Administrative or Line Supervisor.

REQUIREMENTS:
Education: 

  • FSS Trainee  - Associate’s degree or two years of education at a recognized college or university and one year’s experience requiring customer service, explaining rules and regulations, interviewing, claims examination or similar audit and verification activities, direct social service delivery, or implementing technical instructions; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • FSS I: Associate’s degree or two years of education at a recognized college or university and two years’ experience requiring customer service, explaining rules and regulations, interviewing, claims examination or similar audit and verification activities, direct social service delivery, or implementing technical instructions, one year of which shall have been as a Family Services Specialist Trainee or in similar activities, such as employment as a Case Technician or Fiscal Specialist or other eligibility related work, or job related work in fields such as banking, accounting, finance, auditing, insurance, customer service, marketing, or social services; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

License/Certification: Valid driver’s license and/or access to transportation for use in statewide travel.

Special Requirements: For promotion to the Family Services Specialist I level, Family Services Specialist Trainees must successfully complete the one year probationary period, demonstrating proficiency in all program areas by: attaining a minimum grade of 70% in a written policy and procedures examination; a satisfactory performance evaluation; and upon recommendation of the Administrative Supervisor. These requirements for successful completion of the one year probationary period also apply to individuals hired directly into Family Services Specialist I level positions.
